Why CRA Deadlines Are Non-Negotiable

Late filing and late payment penalties from the Canada Revenue Agency compound quickly. A missed T4 filing for your small business client can trigger a $25/day penalty. A missed corporate T2 return can mean 5% of unpaid taxes immediately, plus 1% per month after that. For a Saskatchewan accounting firm, missing deadlines isn't just a client inconvenience — it's a liability issue.

Key Individual Tax Deadlines (2025)

  • April 30, 2025: T1 personal tax return filing deadline (most individuals)
  • April 30, 2025: Balance owing payment deadline (even if on extension)
  • June 15, 2025: T1 filing deadline for self-employed individuals (but payment still due April 30)
  • March 15, June 15, September 15, December 15: Quarterly instalment payment dates

Corporate Tax Deadlines (T2)

  • T2 corporate returns are due 6 months after fiscal year-end
  • Corporate tax balance is due 2 months after fiscal year-end (3 months for eligible CCPCs)
  • GST/HST returns vary by filing frequency (monthly, quarterly, annually)

Payroll and T4 Deadlines

  • February 28, 2025: T4/T4A slips due to employees and CRA
  • March 31, 2025: T5 investment income slips
  • Monthly payroll remittances due 15th of following month (most small employers)
  • Accelerated remitters: due within 3 or 10 days of payroll

Saskatchewan PST Remittance Dates

Saskatchewan businesses collecting PST (Provincial Sales Tax) must remit monthly to Saskatchewan Finance. Due dates are the last business day of the month following the reporting period.
